🎉 Your hoop buying guide

Everything you need before you buy — keep it for the shop.

📏 Size to buy

30–32" diameter. Choose the larger end to start — it's more forgiving while they learn.

⚖️ Weight

≈ 500–650 g — heavy enough to feel its rhythm, light enough to control. Avoid ultra-light toy hoops; they spin too fast to learn on.

🧵 Grip & material

A hoop with padded or grippy tape grabs clothing slightly, making it much easier to keep up than a bare plastic hoop.

🚫 What to avoid

Tiny "toy" hoops, very light hoops, and weighted fitness hoops with inner massage nubs (too heavy/sharp for kids).

What size hula hoop is best for a child?

By age: 4–6 → 28–30", 7–9 → 30–32", 10–12 → 32–34", 13+ → 34–36". By height, the hoop should reach roughly between the waist and mid-chest when stood on the floor.

Is a bigger or smaller hoop easier for beginners?

Bigger and slightly heavier hoops are easier — they spin slower, giving more time to react. Small, light hoops spin fast and are harder to keep up.

How heavy should a kids' hula hoop be?

Roughly 450–700 g for learning — younger children at the lighter end. Avoid ultra-light toy hoops.

What size hoop for a 7 year old?

Around 30–32" diameter for most 7 year olds — choose the larger end to make learning easier.
